Doormats are always welcome for every part of your home that encounters foot traffic, and leftover asphalt shingles can be your very own DIY, customizable doormat. All you’ll need to do is follow these easy steps:
1. Collect all the shingles you want to use for the doormat.
2. Flip the shingles so that the rough parts, the ones with a lot of granules, are facing down.
3. Get creative! Form the shape or general size of your doormat.
4. Using a strong adhesive, such as industrial glue or a strong glue gun, stick them onto each other, line by line, then let them dry.
5. Carefully flip the shingle doormat over, make sure not to stress the glued ‘joints’ or ‘connections’ or they might fall off. Once you flip them over, you can now start painting the doormat (and it would be better if you use spray paint to properly cover everything)!
6. Let the paint dry and place it where you wish.
Slate tiles are preferred by stylish homeowners, and they are made of 100% natural stone. 2. Stack them on top of each other, then drill two (2) holes in each side of every tile (approximately an inch away from each other).
3. Get four (4) 1×3 rectangular inches of wood, these will act as a bolster for each corner of the pot.
4. Drill into the wooden bolsters, and match them to where the holes were initially drilled into each tile then connect all the sides.
5. For the base, add a tile to the bottom and push it to where the bolsters are, then secure them with screws.
Like slate tiles, Spanish clay tiles are preferred by trendy homeowners that want a specific curb appeal. They’re durable, resilient, and low maintenance, making them a popular choice for people who have a pretty high budget and want an appealing roof that can withstand pretty strong meteorological phenomena. These clay tiles are excellent to paint and hang as pieces of art!
1. Clean and wash off the clay tiles first, and make sure there is no debris on them. Let them dry off.
2. Apply a base layer or primer on them, so that when you paint over them, the color will match your preference! Let the base layer dry off.
3. Paint whatever you wish afterward, and hang them inside your home or outside!
